Richard and Jo Hewison
Cold Comfort Farm, Wolfscastle,
Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, U.K.
The Casblaidd Flatcoated Retrievers were founded in 1987 when Chris Hewison started a relationship with Nemo (The Viking of Woodbridge). Together they succeeded in a variety of disciplines , including the KCJO Obedience Gold Medal at Crufts, and the Overall KCJO Junior of the Year in the following year.
Our next Flatcoat, Jo Hewison's foundation bitch, was born in 1989. Gunmakers Columbine was bred by Joan and the late Jeremy Maude, by Sh.Ch. Exclyst Viking out of Ch. Withybed Meadow Falcon at Gunmakers. An eternally keen and enthusiastic worker in the field, Mint has shown her adaptability by winning Open obedience competitions and has also won agility.
From her first litter by Ch. Exclyst Watchman we kept Casblaidd West Country Tale, who was subsequently exported to Germany to be the shooting companion to Herr von Heimendahl. From her first litter in this country , we kept Casblaidd Bridget , by Sh.Ch. Cleovine Derrynane. She has proved to be a fast, sensitive worker, with several good placings at working tests, and has also won well at Championship level.
Casblaidd Bridget

From the second litter of Gunmakers Columbine, by Shargleam Sou'Wester of Withybed, we kept Casblaidd Duty Free, my beautiful companion, who accompanies me almost everywhere. She has her Shooting Dog Certificate, her Show Gundog Working Certificate and her Stud Book number.

Casblaidd Duty Free - On holiday on Mount Leinster, Eire
Her litter born on St. Patrick's Day (17th March 1998) by Waverton Toby Ale of Varingo, has proved to be every bit as good as we had hoped.

Above is Dad !
To the right and below, is son, Casblaidd Dont Pay the Ferryman.
Best Puppy, Southern Region Working Test 1999
Championship Show winner
He is showing great promise in the Shooting Field, as is his sister , Casblaidd Dutch Courage.
From the same litter we are also very proud of Ann Kilminster's Junior Warrant Winner Casblaidd Dublin Whiskey of Withybed
Our dogs love their exercise, especially on the extensive beach at Newgale in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park http://www.pembrokeshirecoast.org.uk

We only dress up like this once in 300 years, to celebrate the last invasion of the UK, when the
French were sent packing by a gang of Welsh women led by Jemima Nicholas.
Here our Flatcoats were pretending to be Black Welsh Setters.
If you are taking the ferry to Eire from Fishguard and have some time to spare, or are coming to Pembrokeshire on holiday, please do give us a call. We are always happy to talk about Flatcoats, (or Jacob Sheep).
